Thanks Again and Sample First Chapter of Dust to Dust

Guys, I just want to say thanks again for all your kind words, thoughts and encouragement!  And since I don't have time for a real post today, I'm totally cheating and just linking you all to my still in development website - specifically the first chapter of Dust to Dust, available for sampling.  Enjoy!

  1. WOW. Really, really wow. That is action packed, dude! I'm always in awe of writers who can make the action scenes look flawless, smooth and easy. BTW, Micah's power isn't so wimpy after all, aye? LOVE the ending, very emotional moment. And Teri, she's a diva riot. :) She'll be a good match for him.

Know who I can't wait to meet? Alice who walks through mirrors. Yep. Guess why. Just guess. ;)

Kalen, all kidding aside, this is amazing. I expect you'll hear some good things from that 30 page critique you're about to get. I hope this gets picked up VERY soon so I can read it in print. Thanks so much for sharing this!

Oh, and your website is looking great. REminds me that I need to work on mine. Heh.

  2. Heh, and if you think that was action packed, you should see chapter two...lol. No, just kidding, I mean not kidding, chapter two is action packed too, but you know what I mean. I think there's really only maybe three chapters that don't have big action sequences. I wrote it in three weeks taking no breaks, I even took time off from work, and the thing is, I honestly don't think I could have written it if I'd taken any longer. I needed the insane speed and pace of writing it to get the manuscript to flow at the right action-heavy pace, if that makes sense? I'm very happy with how it worked out, but it was insane and exhausted me. Writing the next book in the series should be interesting, hah.

And yeah, Micah's power isn't wimpy even a little bit, he's a powerhouse even ranked against his siblings. He's just never seen it that way. But Alice did turn out to be one of my favorites to write. She pops up starting in Chapter 3 and is the closest to normal that any of them get. In an ideal world, I would love this to be a trilogy of trilogies, each centered around a different sibling, and the title of Alice's book has always been 'The Other Alice'. It's a comparison she's heard many times before...

Thank you so much though. I value your opinion very highly, so you give me great hopes for this. Fingers crossed that we both share shelf space soon!

  4. I loved it, Kalen. You've got great voice and a great hook for your first chapter. It is fast-paced which is perfect with your character voice. I was reading and thinking it's got a similar feel to Rick Riordan's books (which I love, btw). Well done!

  5. On my way to check out Dust to Dust as we speak! Also, I wanted to let you know that I am giving out awards on my blog today, and I just gave you one... (And it's not the fluffy "Irresistibly Sweet Blog" one, I promise!) I'd love it if you stopped by to grab it... Have a great night! :)
